A Day in the Life

The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties under general direction to contribute to the efforts and effectiveness of the environmental, health and safety of the organization as well as participating in the evolution of those efforts within client and its subsidiaries. These functions include consultative and advisory resources to the Company with regard to regulatory requirements of the Federal and State Agency (EPA and CT DEEP respectively), DOT and other environmental regulations, as well as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), industrial hygiene, accident prevention, workers compensation, health services, and employee wellness.

You will:
Partner with Business Unit to advise and assist with the development, implementation and enforcement of new and existing procedures to maintain facility compliance with government and corporate environmental, health and safety requirements.
Assist in the investigation of EHS incidents to ensure root cause identification and resolution.

Develop and participate in initial and ongoing EHS training for new and existing employees.

Coordinate EHS committee meetings and activities.
Perform compliance reviews, general risk assessments, JSA and other safety assessments to support Health, Safety and Environmental management.
Prepare applicable EHS reports as necessary. Provide assistance and advice on EHS issues to make recommendations to facility management.
Develop and conduct EHS Meetings/Trainings and schedule as needed. Write, implement, and manage EHS Programs, Policies and Procedures as needed.
Perform facility EHS Inspections. Ability to evaluate PPE and ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.
Leads and promotes process improvement efforts across the site to help mature a culture of process improvements.
Responsible for developing the process improvement program structure, embedding the required principals and methods within the organization.
Have oversight for training resources, facilitating and participating and process improvement initiatives / projects to ensure success.
Work with management to identify, prioritize and launch process improvement initiatives within targeted area.
Helps to matures process improvement practices across the company.
Leads efforts to engage all levels of management in understanding and supporting process improvement objectives and accountability for results.
Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation assuring compliance of applicable laws and regulations.(i.e. OSHA, EPA, etc.)
Interact with Facilities on a wide variety of projects including pollution prevention and control equipment and for emergency and natural disaster preparedness programs and planning. Periodically function as the on-call person, as scheduled by the Site EHS Manager, for plant emergency response activities or to investigate serious incidents.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety& Health or equivalent with 1-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge of regulatory requirements mandated by OSHA, EPA and other regulatory bodies

Ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to coach, lead and train.

Ability to develop and make presentations to others.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Effective organizational skills.
