Built on a foundation of social justice, the agency serves San Diego County through clinics in areas with a high-density population of Filipinos/Asians and other diverse families and individuals that live at poverty levels
200% to 400% below the Federal Poverty Line.
JOB PURPOSE
OSI is in need of an experienced Phlebotomist to join our growing team. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for drawing blood, tagging each sample and working closely with the Laboratory Supervisor to make sure that the proper samples are delivered for each patient. The successful candidate will also deliver excellent patient service, answer patient questions, act as a resource for patient information and strengthen the relationship between the patient and our entire medical facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration:
§
Collect and tag specimens exactly as outlined in ach medical requisition
§
Develop effective collection techniques as they relate to groups such as pediatric and geriatric patients
§
Properly package each specimen to ensure that every specimen is delivered to the laboratory on time
§
Maintain an organized and clean work area based on state health laws and the guidelines of our medical organization
§
Answer patients questions regarding collection techniques and offer additional resources on the collection process if a patient requests them.

§
Maintain professional working relationships with all levels of staff, clients and the public.

Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.

Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.

Follow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols.

§
Maintain privacy of all patient, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need to know basis for business purposes.

Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations.
Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
§
Must possess a valid state phlebotomy certification
§
Legible handwriting is required
§
Excellent patient service and patient relationship skills
§
Strong attention to detail
§
Complete many different duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
§
Must be able to work under stress when confronted with critical or unusual situations.
§
Must be able to follow instructions explicitly.
§
Ability to demonstrate lab safety and aseptic techniques.

Education and Experience
§
High School Diploma or GED.
§
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Annual Requirements, Licensure, and Certifications
§
State Phlebotomy Certificate
§
Current CPR Certification.
§
Have reliable transportation; clean driving record, and car insurance as required by the state.
